Farm Cove's Waterfront Setting
For the first hundred years of European settlement, Farm Cove was considered a rural part of Pakuranga. Settler Joseph Hargreaves bought 83 acres around the cove in 1843 and built a homestead he called Butley, near where Farm Cove Intermediate now stands. The Wakaaranga Creek marks the suburb's northern boundary with Half Moon Bay.
The shoreline at Sanctuary Point is known for a kauri fossil forest, thought to have formed after a volcanic eruption around 26,000 years ago. The Pakuranga Rotary Walkway runs along the estuary through Farm Cove, past Farm Cove Park and the Snakes and Ladders playground on Bramley Drive, with views out over the Tamaki River. The Rotary Walkway Reserve continues the same route further along the water's edge.
Farm Cove is a small suburb, with a population of around 2,170 as of June 2025 across roughly 84 hectares, sitting between Pakuranga and Half Moon Bay. It's known for its foreshore setting and established residential streets, offering a quieter, more waterfront feel than some of the busier suburbs nearby.
