Life Around Half Moon Bay Marina
Half Moon Bay lies immediately south of Bucklands Beach, along the Tamaki Strait east of Howick and Pakuranga. Its best known feature is Half Moon Bay Marina, first developed in the early 1970s and now home to over 500 boats, one of the larger leisure boating facilities in the region. The marina was sold in 1980 to the Auckland Maritime Foundation, a charitable trust set up under the late Sir Earl Richardson.
The area has a long connection to the water. It sits close to the site of the old Tamaki Landing, the ferry launching point at Bucklands Beach that once connected the peninsula to Panmure and Point England. Today, Half Moon Bay still runs passenger and vehicle ferries to downtown Auckland and Waiheke Island, and the suburb is about 20 minutes by car from the city centre via the Pakuranga Highway and Ti Rakau Drive.
As of June 2025, Half Moon Bay had an estimated population of around 8,650, making it one of the larger suburbs on the Bucklands Beach peninsula.

Pool Care Near the Marina
Close to the marina and the water, pools here face coastal wind and salt air. Metal fittings, pump housings and chlorinator cells are worth checking more often for corrosion.
